Since winning the television show Pop Idol in 2002, Will Young has become something of a permanent fixture of screen and stage. Over the past decade he has cemented a successful career with hit records, Hollywood film roles and acclaimed stage performances. Now, finally, he is confirming his superstar status with a move from trendy Hackney to elegant Holland Park.
Will Young sprang into the national consciousness by picking an argument with Simon Cowell on prime-time television. However, it is his remarkable voice that has kept him at the top with a string of five hit albums and surely more to come. He has appeared in films and on television, most notably in Mrs Henderson Presents with Dame Judi Dench, and last year appeared in the stage version of Cabaret, for which he was recently nominated for a Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
Although Hackney and Holland Park couldn’t be more different, both areas make perfect sense for someone like Will. When he was young and starting out in his career, Hackney was a suburb on the way up, becoming massively popular with trendy urbanites over the course of Will’s time there. Cool bars and restaurants, bijou boutiques and a buzzing creative community make it just the place for young artists, entertainers and media professionals.
Now, however, Will has hit the big time and can be rightly considered an ‘a-list’ celeb. It’s time for something a little more prestigious and Holland Park fits the bill. Grand Victorian villas, smart townhouses and swanky apartments will give him plenty to choose from. Living in Holland Park will place Will in the heart of the West End, in an area known for its smart and elegant shops and restaurants. His new neighbours will be the super wealthy, including Richard Branson, P Diddy and old nemesis Simon Cowell – while a lot of expats choose to live in this part of London for its exclusive atmosphere.
