What do YOU think COVID will do to the relocation industry?

Tony Coe - Founder & CEO

A long-time colleague in the industry recently admitted that he was worried about the future.  One of his giant tech clients had announced, that all their staff are welcome to choose to work from anywhere in the world but “we won’t pay to move you there”.  He saw that as a sign of the way things will go.

Well, tech jobs are one thing, but not everyone can get results purely via a keyboard and mouse. People need to be persuaded by others they’ve come to like and trust.  Fruitful business relationships -  like personal ones - need to be built and nurtured, requiring elements of personal rapport that transcend written communications.

At Saunders 1865, a lot of our relocation assignments from long-established global clients are frozen in mid-air right now due to bans on international travel.  But the companies and people involved are as eager as ever for the moves to take place -  but only when it’s absolutely safe to do so.

However, there are other, newer corporate businesses that are as keen as mustard to make things happen sooner.  These are companies that are aggressively acquiring the best, new talent from all over the globe to pursue projects and opportunities they’ve landed.

These ambitious, agile new businesses can’t wait to get their new rainmakers onboard and relocated to where they need them to be.  Many will move to London.

But beyond that, they want to give them a spectacular onboarding experience, and part of that means providing them with VIP relocation support.  They want to roll out the red carpet for their new hires so they all feel highly valued by their new employer.

Now that’s a smart investment, and it’s something that Saunders 1865 are uniquely placed to provide.  Why?  Because it’s exactly how we got this relocation business started back in the 1980s.  If you’re so inclined, you can hear the story via our new podcast People and Property – THE Relocation Podcast here
