At 2:00 AM, Sunday March 9 the USA’s clocks “sprang” forward an hour (starting at 7:00 AM the same day in the UK), while UK clocks patiently wait until March 30 to make the leap. This means that from March 9-30 the time difference between the UK and the United States will be an hour less than usual. For those of you working with both US and UK branches, here’s how the time differences will break down:
AKDT (Alaska Daylight Time) – 8 hours behind UK time
Includes most of Alaska, just not west of the Aleutian islands
Arizona – 7 hours behind UK time
Arizona falls into the Mountain Time Zone, but most of the state does not observe daylight savings
CDT (Central Daylight Time) – 5 hours behind UK time
Includes: Alabama, Arkansas, (a bit of) Florida, Illinois, (bits of) Indiana, Iowa, (most of) Kansas, (western half of) Kentucky, Louisiana, (a bit of) Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, (most of) Nebraska, (most of) North Dakota, Oklahoma, (half of) South Dakota, (western half of) Tennessee, (most of) Texas and Wisconsin
EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) – 4 hours behind UK time
Includes: Connecticut, Delaware, (most of) Florida, Georgia, (most of) Indiana, (eastern half of) Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, (most of) Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, (eastern half of) Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Washington DC and West Virginia
MDT (Mountain Daylight Time) – 6 hours behind UK time
Includes: (a bit of) Arizona, Colorado, (a bit of) Kansas, (most of) Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, (part of) North Dakota, (a bit of) Nebraska, (a bit of) Oregon, (half of) South Dakota, (a bit of) Texas, Utah and Wyoming
HADT (Hawaii-Aleutian Daylight Time) – 9 hours behind UK time
Includes Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands (and any part of Alaska west of them).
PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) – 7 hours behind UK time
Includes: California, (a bit of) Idaho, Nevada, (most of) Oregon and Washington
Good luck!
