The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) have just abolished the paper portion of the UK driving licence. All the information it contained is now held online.
But there’s a snag which you may discover when you hire a car.
To get over this problem, you now have to get a unique code from the DVLA website. The code is then given to the car hire company so they can check your licence, for example, for any penalty points.
To get the code online you need your full licence number, National Insurance number (NI#) and postcode. To make matters more difficult, the code is only valid for 72 hours.
And you can only request 5 codes in any 72-hour period.
Many people have been finding this out only when they arrive at their overseas destination, tired with screaming kids in tow! We don’t want that to happen to you!
For clients who are part of Saunders 1865’s Ongoing Support Service assistance with this sort of issue (as well as any issues relating to your UK rental property) is always only an email or phone call away.
