Ctrip.com was founded in 1999 and is one of China’s best-known travel businesses. It became China’s biggest internet travel service after merging with a similar business, Qunar, last year.
With an annual turnover of £120million, 60 million monthly users and a presence in 30 languages, Skyscanner was formed in 2001 by IT professionals Gareth Williams, Barry Smith and Bonamy Grimes.
This UK travel website became the travel search engine leader and an international entity. Ctrip.com said the management of Skyscanner would remain in place and run the company independently.
