It’s great to find the perfect London rental home, but what if the Landlord won’t keep up his end of the bargain after move-in?

Our corporate client moved a key employee to London from Paris and hired Saunders 1865 to provide high-end, UK relocation support. The VIP pre-home finding and home finding programs went very well. Our team found the assignee a great place to live in just to the West of the City of London.

But after moving-in, the assignee experienced major issues with the Landlord.

We had ensured that the Landlord contracted to have the home professionally cleaned so that it would be immaculate on our assignee’s arrival. In spite of that, the carpets and curtains were dirty and the place was generally not in the agreed condition.

The Landlord did not want to take responsibility for these problems; in fact his response was to say that if the Tenants didn’t like the home they could move out! He was not even willing to have a meeting to discuss the issues!!

Fortunately our corporate client retained Saunders 1865 to provide our Ongoing Support & Tenancy Management Service to their assignee – a smart decision because these situations cause employees and their families a great deal of stress. They also distract them from their work, costing the employer money.

We could have taken a hard line with this unreasonable Landlord, but it was important to this (very patient and reasonable) assignee to maintain good relations with the property owner. We therefore used more sugar than vinegar in our persistent negotiations on the Tenant’s behalf!

Our persistence paid-off because we persuaded the Landlord to see the light and to fix all the issues – which he did over the weekend while the assignee and family were away on a break. On their return they were relieved, delighted and very happy with the outcome. We had saved them a lot of time and stress.

Also, our records will be good ammunition if this Landlord tries to raise an unreasonable claim against the deposit at the end of the tenancy – an all too common occurrence in the UK.
