Saunders 1865 Team Recommendation – Sadler’s Wells’ Flamenco Festival 2014
Duende is an untranslatable word that refers to the dark essence of a unique and exciting art form: flamenco. When you hear the word you no doubt conjure up images of the tragic yet brutal dancers, but this festival also features those who make the stirring flamenco music to which the dancers move: both singers and musicians. For two weeks every year Sadler’s Wells holds a two week festival in London to celebrate and exhibit flamenco.
Highlights include a performance by Sara Baras, who uses ballet flamenco to tell the story of her homeland: Andalucía. She kicks off the festival this week while next week the Gala Flamenca wraps up with performances from several flamenco stars. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend specifically, on Sunday Ángel Múñoz will be performing a piece focused on the contradictions within himself.
