UK Public Holiday Alert: we’ll be closed this coming Monday!
Saunders 1865 will be closed for the Summer Bank Holiday Weekend
from 6pm on Friday, 22 August. We’ll be back on Tuesday, 26 August at 10am.
August is ending, usually that means school is just around the corner (finally a quiet household!!) and summer is coming to a close. Don’t pack up the summer clothes and sun screen yet, there are two worthwhile summer festivities to checkout, the Notting Hill Carnival and BBC Good Food Festival. These festivals are sure to entertain those traveling here on business or those that simply want to enjoy the few remaining days of summer outdoors. (Hopefully the rain holds off)
The Notting Hill Carnival is one of the largest in Europe and hosts a variety of food stalls, dance, musical performances and head turning colourful customs. The Carnival takes place over a three day period, starting on 23 August and finishing with the main day of celebration on Bank Holiday Monday, the 25th. On Saturday you can test your dance skills with the rhythmic styling of Caribbean music. If you don’t want to show off your dance moves, bring the family to Family Day starting at 10am on Sunday. This includes a child friendly parade that will be sure to entertain the little ones. However, if you really want to experience the true Notting Hill Carnival, go Monday. The events include the main parade with brightly coloured floats. Stages with a variety of music and of course what everyone really wants a wide variety of food/drink stalls. If you are spending this Bank Holiday in London this one is not to be missed. Best of all the events are free!
If the Carnival doesn’t interest you, try the BBC Good Food Festival at Hampton Court Palace. Feel like a royal for the day by sampling some of the best food in London. The samples include food from producers, butchers, bakeries and restaurants in the local area. Enjoy food cooked by some of the biggest names in the culinary industry. This is a perfect family event as children can join in at the cookery school and enjoy the amenities of the chocolate kitchen. Tickets for this event are purchased through the BBC Good Food website.
Whether you’re spending with Bank Holiday abroad or staying in London, one thing is certain, get out and enjoy dwindling days of summer! However, if you are staying in London be sure to check out either the Notting Hill Carnival or the BBC Good Food Festival. Both events are sure to provide fun for all.
