From 1 October 2015, with any new UK rental contract that starts, the home MUST HAVE working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Specifically the regulations require that a smoke alarm is installed on every storey of the property where there is a room used wholly or partly as living accommodation. Also, a carbon monoxide detector should be located in any room of the property which is used as living accommodation and contains a solid fuel burning combustion appliance, for example, a gas boiler, gas cooker or gas fire.

The laws that surround tenancies are constantly changing and being updated.

The changing UK laws affecting rental homes in the UK is just one sliver of the factors that any good Tenancy Management service should cover after your Assignee has moved in.

It is certainly part of the Ongoing Support that my firm’s corporate clients provide to their UK Assignees – and it’s important to be aware that many UK Landlords are unaware of their legal obligations. It is certainly arguably the case that Employers have a responsibility to make sure that the rental homes their Employees occupy are safe and legal.

We value your input! Please Provide Tony with your answer regarding support provided to your assignees

What support do you provide to your assignees once they take occupation of their new rental home?

In my opinion too many London & UK landlords don’t’ even live up to their basic obligations to maintain the property and its facilities. And because the rental agents work only for landlords, they can be less than helpful to tenants in getting matters resolved quickly or at all! This can make Assignees’ lives miserable and can badly impact on their ability to focus on their work.
