Specifically the regulations require that a smoke alarm is installed on every storey of the property where there is a room used wholly or partly as living accommodation. Also, a carbon monoxide detector should be located in any room of the property which is used as living accommodation and contains a solid fuel burning combustion appliance, for example, a gas boiler, gas cooker or gas fire.
